During our journey to the enigmatic and extraordinary country of Ethiopia, we will attune to our earliest human origins, experience the amazing diversity and beauty of the geography and wildlife of this primordial land and explore the mysteries of its connections with the Ark of the Covenant and the Knights Templar.
Ethiopia has been called the cradle of humanity. For here the 3.2 million-years old remains of ‘Lucy’ the earliest hominid yet discovered to walk upright were found. Geographically amazing too, Ethiopia straddles the Great Rift Valley and flowing from Lake Tana, the Blue Nile begins its journey to Egypt
In Axum, the capital of the ancient and powerful kingdom of Aksum from around 400BC until the 10th century, according to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is guarded the fabled Ark of the Covenant.
And at Lalibela, incredible 12th century churches were hewn from the bedrock by King Lalibela on his return from exile in Jerusalem, rumoured to have been accompanied and advised by Templar Knights.
But, in 1270, a new king came to the throne who traced his lineage - as written down in the Ethiopian epic the Khebra Nagast or Glory of Kings - to Menelik the legendary son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, and began the Solomonic dynasty that was to last 500 years.
More recently the Rastafarian religion arose from the 20th century reign of Ethiopia’s Haile Selassie, the political schisms of whose reign and its aftermath are still to be fully resolved, with national elections in 2010.
As each day we explore and attune to this amazing land, we will have the opportunity each evening to come together to share and enrich our personal and group experiences.
We hope you are called to join us on what we feel will be a wonderful journey of inner and outer discovery of a land that may hold the key to healing some of our deepest collective rifts.
